Last September, I was training for my first half marathon. Like a lot of people looking to get in better shape, I was ALL about CARDIO. At this point, I could run 8 - 9 miles at a time and felt really good about the shape I was in.
Little did I know, I was missing a KEY part of getting in the best shape of my life and dropping inches! What was that key? I needed some resistance training - STAT! I think the reason I was all about cardio is that I knew cardio burned calories and if I was going to devote time to an exercise, that is what I wanted to do, right?
WRONG!
Sure, cardio burns calories but I was probably losing muscle or at the very least not gaining much and now that I know what I know, building that muscle would have made me leaner in a much shorter amount of time.
So, why am I telling you all of this? Simple. So you don't make the same mistake I did. I started running in February and do you know I did not lose a single pound (in fact I gained) until September? CRAZY! You have to have balance in your workouts. I know you don't have time to spend hours at the gym. Neither do I! I want to get the most out of my very limited time.
