Hello everyone and welcome to my Lose It With Lucy blog!
Never at a loss for words, I have wanted to start a blog for a long time so here I am! I'll admit I am technologically challenged so I don't have it fully up and running but I wanted to get my first post up so here it goes!
Who am I? What do I do? Why would anyone want to follow my blog?
First and foremost, I am a wife and mom of two children. They are my world and most of the millions of decisions I make in my day reflect on their well being. I am also a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator. I have spent the last 13 years helping people eat better, lose weight, and feel great. I also teach as an adjunct instructor at our local community college. It all started with a "guest appearance" in a sports nutrition class and now, 9 years later, I am teaching nutrition classes and med term students how to say the word sphygmomanometer (you may know it as blood pressure cuff). You just never know where life can take you.
Between the hustle and bustle of life and by life I mean building two houses, moving two times, having two children in 20 months, changing jobs umpteen times and my husband working on two advanced degrees, I lost a big part of who I was. Don't get me wrong, those "life things" that happened were things that everyone goes through and I love that they happened but I turned them into excuses. I had excuses for not exercising for 6 YEARS! Yes, me, a Registered Dietitian, didn't exercise for 6 years. My nutrition was okay but my fitness level was NOT.
In February of 2014, my sister invited me to do a 5K run. It was a fun run and after rolling my eyes and cursing under my breath, I agreed. I hated running. I was not a runner. I did NOT want to do it but this gave me a goal and a mission and for some reason, the mission stuck. I felt so good after the 5K, we signed up for a half marathon and ran the WHOLE thing! Understand me, before training for my first 5K, I hadn't ran more than a mile at a time, EVER!
In the midst of all of it, my husband was getting in shape as well and I was missing the feeling of helping others with their wellness journey. I had seen a friend post about Beachbody, challenge groups and a coach. I thought, "Is this for me?" Four MONTHS later, I became a Beachbody coach and I truly feel like I have found my calling. I can combine my experience as a dietitian, stay accountable to my own fitness goals, be an example for my family, and help others get healthier and do it ALL while still being home with my kids.
Follow me on my own journey to health and wellness and maybe learn something along the way that can help you, too!
