If you know me, two of my favorite things are fitness and the TV show, The Golden Girls. In fact, today while I was working out, PiYo was on my Chromebook (thank you, Beachbody on Demand) and I was watching the Golden Girls on TV.
Multi-tasking at it's finest, right?
That got me thinking. As a Beachbody coach, one of my biggest responsibilities is finding the perfect program for each of my challengers and I take this job seriously. I like to ask them what they like to do and how much time they have to devote to the exercise program. Can they do high-impact or do they need to stick to low-impact? Weights or no weights?
It's kind of like playing match maker between my challengers and the workouts to find their "soulmate workout." Yes, that's a term we use and it's true. My soulmate workout is 21 Day Fix Extreme in case anyone was wondering.
So, as I am sweating it out to Chalene and listening to naive Rose getting conned by an old wartime buddy of Charlie's (you know the episode, don't you?), I am thinking, "If I were a Beachbody coach for the Golden Girls, what workout would I set them up with?"
Blanche
At first I was thinking CIZE. I think Blanche would appreciate Shaun T's smooth moves and his hip movements because well, you know, and I know she is an experienced dancer. All of those nights dancing at the Rusty Anchor were good practice and she could show the sailors some new moves but then I thought, no. She needs a workout where Shaun T takes his shirt off so I would pair her up with T25. She's a woman on the go and needs something that takes the least amount of time and gives the max results. T25 is for beginner to intermediate and I think she would appreciate the ab exercises, too!
Dorothy
Dorothy is a strong-willed woman but is she strong physically? We'll see because I would set Dorothy up with Body Beast. I think she could go head to head (or weight to weight) with Sagi and when he says, "Let's Get Big," she would give it right back to him! As she gets older, Dorothy will lose muscle tone and starting a lifting program can counteract that. I would love to see her Flex Friday shots and watch her out-lift her younger challengers.
She'd have to lose this outfit, though. Sequins and Sagi just don't fit together.
Rose
Oh, Rose. She's really my favorite. As a coach, I know we are not supposed to pick favorites but in this case, I can't help it. I would set my fellow Midwesterner up with CIZE. She's proven in several episodes that she got the gams of a dancer and the moves to follow it up. Forget back up dancer, a couple of walk throughs with the routines and she would be ready for her own dance video!
Sophia
She's already won a race so we know she is a competitor and in good cardio shape. So what program would I set her up with? PiYo!!! As a fellow racer, I think PiYo is great for strength and flexibility which runners/walkers tend to lack. There's no jumping and no weights, which let's face it, is good for Sophia because she is NOT putting that purse down for anything!
So, if I were the Beachbody coach for the Golden Girls, those would be my recommendations for their workout routines. Fitness isn't one size fits all and that's what I LOVE about the variety that we offer. A little something for everyone, even your favorite Golden Girl!
Now, about all of that cheesecake.......
P.S. Thank goodness that fitness coaching fashion has evolved as much as fitness has since the 80's
